The Bishop Basil Meeking Scholarships

🎉 Congratulations to our inaugural scholarship awardees, Emily Irvine (2024 General Scholarship) and Isaac Harris (2024 Catholic Education Scholarship)! 🎉

Thank you to all those took the time to share with us how they hoped attending Hearts would benefit them and equip them for service. We hope to see all of you at Hearts, this year or in the future!

What are the scholarships?

The Bishop Basil Meeking scholarships cover your full registration fee and deposit for the 2024 School ($645).

These scholarships do not cover transport to/from the venue.

There are two scholarships available: one is a general scholarship for which anyone aged 18-35 can apply.

The second scholarship is for someone who is connected to Catholic Education, including but not limited to teachers, trainee teachers and school chaplains.

Who can apply?

You can apply for the scholarship if you are aged 18-35 and wish to attend Hearts Aflame Catholic Summer School 2024.

Hearts Aflame 2024 will take place at Nga Tawa Diocesan School, Marton, from 29/12/23 until 7/01/24.

You must be available to attend the whole school and agree to abide by our Terms and Conditions and Code of Conduct.

Why Bishop Basil Meeking?

Bishop Basil Meeking (1929-2020) was the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Christchurch and a long-time supporter of Hearts Aflame. When he returned to God in 2020, he left a donation to the school to help assure its future. The Planning Team decided it would be fitting to use a portion of this money to fund two scholarship places at Hearts Aflame each year to continue Bishop Basil’s legacy to Hearts Aflame, and his contribution to the spiritual formation of young Catholics in New Zealand.

Applications for the Bishop Basil Meeking Scholarships are open now for Hearts Aflame 2024.
